“Reach for the HeART”(RFTH), a project by Art in Hospitaland sponsoredby Sin Sin Fine Art,was proposed and launched in 2009 with the objective to fund workshops that are specifically designed to serve elderly patients with chronic diseases in the public hospitals.
In the past, most of the workshops of “Reach for the HeART” were in the form of painting classes. This year, we introduced the elderly some different art materials, and themes that close to life experience: from the Hong Kong-style food widely loved by the general public to the Hong Kong Wetland Park. Natural ecology, from conceiving pictures of flowers and birds indoors to sketching flowers and trees to the outdoors, and even dyeing flowers on fabrics with plant dyeing methods, etc. During the process, everyone exchanged ideas, opened the heart to interact with each other, and increased opportunities for communication. At the same time, it inspires creativity, joyful laughter comes and goes, and the purpose of "self-healing" is achieved through art.
Most of the participants are elders with emotional illness and cognitive impairment. The works on display include paintings and mixed media creations, each with its own characteristics. Here we thank our tutors: Stella Tang, ah 3, Polly, Li Xiaohuaand the medical staff of the hospital. Without their full support, we would not have the opportunity to bring art into the hospital.
